The small print
Privacy
James Layfield runs this site and is responsible for any personal information it collects. The site sets no cookies and has no advertising trackers.
- Postcards. If you send a postcard, I receive your name, your email address, your message and your choice of stamp and topic. They are stored in a Cloudflare database in the United States and emailed to my inbox, which is hosted by Proton. I use them only to reply to you. I do not add you to a list or share your details. Postcards are deleted automatically after 12 months, or sooner if you ask.
- Spam protection. To stop floods of fake postcards, a scrambled fingerprint of your network is kept with your postcard for 24 hours and then deleted.
- Analytics. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, does not track you across sites and does not identify you.
- Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect it.
- Fonts. Typefaces load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when your browser fetches them.
- Experiments. A couple of the experiments remember small settings, such as a colour choice or a game level, in your own browser. Nothing is sent back to me.
The companies that help run the site are Cloudflare (hosting, database, email delivery, analytics), Proton (my inbox) and Google (fonts). To see what I hold about you, correct it or have it deleted, send me a postcard and say so.

Everything on this site is provided for general information. The words, illustrations and experiments are © James Layfield unless stated otherwise, and you are welcome to link to any page.
The experiments run in your own browser and are provided as they are. Some are demanding on graphics and may run slowly on older devices; closing the tab stops them.
